DAY 4: Friday May 16 - Travel Day

Packed and departed Woodland Cottage at Mammoth Cave for the 400 mile trip to Indiana Dunes. 

Got a late start due to the heavy rain and a few trees down across the road.



Drove through Louisville, KY. Took the scenic tour through downtown and over the old interstate bridge to avoid the new bridge toll. Traffic in Indianapolis was bad. Not sure I want to drive through, or visit there again. Traffic was heavy all the way to our turnoff to Indiana Dunes with most of it headed to Chicago which we were about 20 miles from. On the way, about 60 miles out ran into heavy winds that brought the Interstate to a standstill
 And there there was a 20 mile dust storm.

Emily's camping with Pepper tonight and Saturday night. Didn't think to take pictures of her campsite, but I'll get some tomorrow assuming the mosquitoes and ticks don't carry her off.

I'm roughing it in a motel room without power. They think it might be back on by 11 pm, but I'm not sure. The power outage was caused by the same dust storm that we ran in to

Day 10: Thursday May 22 - Here Fine!

Pulled into Bowman around 10pm after a detour at Badlands National Park  Left Pierre, SD with side detour to Badlands National Park and then arrival late in Bowman, ND. Cowboy windmill in Ft  Pierre, SD Depot Museum in Fort Pierre, SD Rodeos are a big deal in SD Short trip to Minuteman Missle Historic Site. A tribute to the cold war ICBM Missle program during the cold war. Badlands National Historic Park.

Day 2: Wednesday May 14 - Begin trip, Travel to Mammoth Cave.

Loaded car. Tied down kyaks. Traveled to Mammoth Cave. Stopped for a short while at the Clay County Historical Museum in NW TN.  They knew Jacob, of course. Arrived at Mammoth Cave for some hiking adventures and splelunking. 185 miles out of 1550 down. Spent the evening exploring a few trails. Cottage at Mammoth Cave is very nice. Two double rooms, A/C, dorm fridge. Plenty of room.  This one of the early carriages they used to take visitors to the caves. Entrance to Dixon Cave which is no longer open and home to endangered bats. Emily's bedroom with the moni- fridge Mike's bedroom. Toilet is not much bigger than an outhouse. It had an automatic light that stayed on about 15 seconds unless you kept moving.
